Millions of men all over the world are worried by potency problems. Recently, however, pharmacology has developed quite a few drugs that can improve the quality of the sex life of the strong half of humanity. Each of these drugs has its own characteristics, in which it is sometimes difficult to understand.
Causes of Male Impotence
These reasons can be diverse. It is not a secret that we live in a world full of stress, in cities with poor environmental conditions, and the sedentary lifestyle of the majority of the population has an impact. Therefore, starting around 40 years old, men experience problems with potency. And this entails not only discomfort, but also problems in family life, disintegration of families and social disorder.
Chronic diseases and health problems that have recently become the property of quite young men also contribute:
- cardiovascular diseases,
- hormonal disorders.
The Drugs’ Principle of Work to Increase Potency
Violations are divided into two main types – an erection disorder and early ejaculation. An erection occurs as follows. In response to a sexual stimulus, the walls of the blood vessels supplying the penis with blood are relaxed. As a result, the penis, or rather, its cavernous bodies, are filled with blood. However, if for some reason there is a spasm, then an erection doesn’t occur or it’s too weak.
Many enzymes are involved in this process. First of all, it is phosphodiesterase, as well as nitric oxide. Also, men often have problems with the duration of erection or rapid ejaculation. As a rule, they are caused by another reason – the lack of neurotransmitters in the nervous system.
Types of Drugs to Increase Potency
There are several types of drugs for impotence. Here are their main groups:
- phosphodiesterase inhibitors,
- no synthase stimulants,
- alpha adrenoblockers,
- dietary supplements based on vegetable or animal components.
Most drugs are taken orally, in pill form. However, there are tools for injections and even sprays. It’s no need to say, in most cases, tablet dosage forms are much more convenient, and injections can’t always be done immediately before sexual intercourse.
The most famous group of drugs. List of main drugs in the group:
Sildenafil is sold under the well-known trademark Viagra. The drug was created by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer. Properties of the drug, affecting the potency, were discovered by chance, because the original drug was intended for the treatment of low blood pressure (hypotension). The action of the drug is rapid – within a few tens of minutes, although this time may be individual for each, and it lasts up to 4 hours.
Despite the fact that today more effective drugs that increase potency have been developed, Sildenafil still retains its popularity. In addition to the original drug (Viagra), there are a number of generics based on the same active substance (Sildenafile). They mainly differ from Viagra in price.
Cialis is based on another active ingredient – Tadalafile. This drug was developed later than Viagra. The duration of its action exceeds the duration of Viagra and is 36 hours. The rate of onset of the effect is also higher than that of preparations based on Sildenafil, and is usually a quarter of an hour, in rare cases – an hour or more.
The drug Levitra is based on another active ingredient from this group – Vardenafil. It was developed by the British pharmaceutical company Glaxo Smith Kline. The effect of the drug occurs after about 20-25 minutes, and lasts for about 4 hours. The drugs’ advantage is a minimum of contraindications. It affects the liver, kidneys and cardiovascular system to a lesser extent compared to Generic Viagra. Also, the drug can be combined with alcohol in moderate doses and fatty foods. However, in this case, the drug’s effect may occur somewhat later than usual.
A drug like Ziden is also worth noting, it is based on the most modern substance from the group of phosphodiesterase inhibitors – Udenafil. The effect occurs after about 30 minutes and lasts about a day.
However, the drugs of the group have a lot of contraindications. They are contraindicated in the case of heart failure, kidney failure, hypertension, diabetes and some other chronic diseases. Taking the drugs is strictly contraindicated in case of simultaneous use of nitroglycerin.as
In addition, the drugs won’t help in the case, if a male libido is impaired, that is, sexual desire. Drugs are intended only to enhance erection, and not to restore sexual desire. Studies show that the effectiveness of drugs in this group is quite high and amounts to 70-92%. These are relatively safe drugs, although they shouldn’t be taken without the doctor’s advice, especially for people with chronic diseases.
A means to increase potency. It refers to selective inhibitors of phosphodiesterase type 5. The principle of action is based on the release of nitric oxide in the vessels of the penis during sexual stimulation.
Form release: 25 mg tablets containing sildenafil in the form of citrate.
Indications: Erectile dysfunction, expressed in its lack of duration or strength.
Contraindications: Simultaneous use of nitric oxide donators, as well as any organic nitrite or nitrate, age up to 18 years, female gender. It is used with caution in anemia, leukemia, penile deformities, gastric ulcer, bleeding, severe hypertension and hypotension, heart failure, recently suffered a heart attack or stroke.
Side effects: Headache, skin rash, visual disturbances, tachycardia, changes in blood pressure, nausea, dyspepsia.
Application: The recommended dose is 50 mg per hour before sexual intercourse. In some cases, the dose may be reduced to 25 mg or increased to 100 mg. It is not recommended to take the drug more than once a day and at a dose exceeding 100 mg.
Nitric Oxide Donators (NO Synthase Stimulators)
The action of this drugs’ group is based on an increase in the production of nitric oxide, which affects vasodilation. The most common drug group is Impaza. Impaza helps to relax smooth muscles, which leads to improved filling of the cavernous bodies of the penis with blood.
The drug’s advantage is that it can be taken in the presence of cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension. In addition, it can increase sexual desire (libido). The use of the drug on an ongoing basis helps to increase testosterone. However, taking the drug is contraindicated while taking phosphodiesterase inhibitors, as this may cause a strong decrease in pressure. Given the small number of side effects, the drug may be the best choice as a medicine for impotence at the age of 60 years and older. Some other substances have a similar effect, for example, L-arginine.
Homeopathic medicine is used for erectile dysfunction. Contains antibodies to endothelial NO-synthase.
Release form: Tablets for absorption. In addition to the mixture of antibodies, they contain lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose.
Indications: Violation of libido, reduced potency, autonomic dysfunction during male climax.
Contraindications: Individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Application: The recommended dose is one tablet per day. The pill needs to be absorbed out of meal times. The recommended course is 12 weeks.
These drugs have an indirect effect on potency, increasing the level of the male hormone – Testosterone. Among the drugs in this group can be noted Fluoxymesterone, Methyltestosterone, Andriol TC, Testosterone Enanthate. They are prescribed by a doctor in the event of a decrease in the concentration of testosterone in the blood. Can be taken in the form of tablets or administered by injection. There are also creams and gels for rubbing into the skin of the body and limbs. Rubbing into the skin of the penis doesn’t make much sense. Self-treatment of impotence with these drugs is unacceptable.
Hormone replacement drug used in the absence of testosterone in the body.
Release form: Solution in capsules for injection with a volume of 1 ml. Contains testosterone ester.
Indications: In men – endocrine impotence, testosterone deficiency, impaired puberty, eunuchoidism, osteoporosis, caused by testosterone deficiency. In women, uterine fibroids, hyperestrogenism, endometriosis, breast tumors.
Contraindications: carcinoma and prostate enlargement, diabetes mellitus, hypercalcemia, cardiac and hepatic failure, atherosclerosis, heart attack, pregnancy and lactation.
Side effects: In men – frequent erection, impaired spermatogenesis, accelerated puberty. In women – uterine bleeding, gynecomastia, hirsutism, depression, insomnia, cholestatic syndrome.
Application: Instructions for use should be indicated by the doctor when prescribing the drug. The drug is injected into the gluteus muscle, intravenous injections are prohibited. Adults, as a rule, are prescribed a single dose of 50-200 mg of the drug with an interval of 2-4 weeks. The maximum monthly dose is 400 mg.
Perhaps few people know, but such a well-known group of drugs, such as drugs for spasms, can also increase potency. This is due to the fact that in many cases the cause of poor erection are vascular spasms. Such drugs as drotaverine and papaverine help well in this case. However, they shouldn’t be taken in pills (in this case, the effect of the drugs is extremely small), but used in the form of injections injected into the tissue of the penis. The drugs’ advantage of this type is their availability. As a rule, it’s inexpensive means available to most buyers.
These drugs block the adrenaline receptors of the alpha type in the vessels, as a result of which they expand, which leads to increased erection. There are both selective and non-selective alpha adrenoblockers. The first is the alkaloid Yohimbine, which blocks receptors of the type α, which are located mainly in the vessels of the penis.
Yohimbine is a drug derived from the bark of the yohimbe tree. In addition to enhancing erection, it has an effect on libido, increasing it. It also improves the tone and improves fat metabolism. It is contraindicated in diseases of the kidneys and in old age.
Phentolamine, a non-selective alpha-adrenergic blocker, is often used to increase potency. It can be used both in the form of tablets and in the form of injections into the skin of the penis.
Aphrodisiac, designed to improve potency. The effect is due to effects on type 2 alpha adrenoreceptors, as well as on brain adrenergic receptors.
Form release: Available in tablets. One tablet contains 5 mg of Yohimbine hydrochloride. Indications: functional and psychogenic impotence, male menopause, atony of the bladder. Contraindications: severe hypertension, liver and kidney damage, simultaneous use of adrenomimetics, children’s age, female gender. Side effects: tachycardia, hypertension, dyspepsia, dizziness, headache, diarrhea. Application: It is accepted during food. The tablet should be washed down with water and not chewed. The initial dose – 2.5 mg three times a day – the maximum – 5 mg three times a day.
Synthetic Analogues of Prostaglandins
These drugs are injected either into the urethra or as an injection into the skin of the penis. Alprostadil is the most common pattern of drugs of this type. The principle of its action is based on strengthening the obstructive venous mechanism of erection, as well as on relaxing the muscles of the cavernous bodies and their intensive filling with blood. It also has an alpha-adrenergic blocking effect.
Some serotonin reuptake inhibitors have an interesting side effect, namely, that they are able to prevent premature ejaculation.
Among these drugs is Dapoxetine – a drug for the prolongation of sexual intercourse. After its use, the time of sexual intercourse is increased by about 3-4 times. The drug is taken several hours before intercourse. However, an increased dose doesn’t increase its duration, but only increases the number of side effects. The drug can be combined with the intake of phosphodiesterase inhibitors, in particular, Viagra. Another antidepressant – trazodon, is also able to cause vasodilation of the penis due to the effects on alpha-adrenergic receptors. It is usually administered in the form of injections.
Drugs That Increase Blood Microcirculation in Tissues
These drugs alone cann’t strengthen an erection. However, in combination with other drugs, they can enhance their effect, so they can be prescribed by a doctor as additional drugs. These include Trental and Pentoxifylline.
Activators of Potassium Channels
Preparations activate potassium channels in muscle cells, which contribute to their relaxation. The preparations of this group include Minoxidil. It can be used in the form of tablets or applied to the skin of the penis as an ointment.
This category includes drugs that contain several components of different pharmacological groups that enhance the action of each other. An example of such a drug is Super-P Force. It contains sildenafil and dapoxetine. Sildenafil increases erection, and dapoxetine increases the duration of sexual intercourse.
Preparations Against Prostatitis
Prostatitis is very often the cause of impotence. Therefore, the treatment of this disease often helps restore potency. Often for the treatment of prostatitis used candles with anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antispasmodic action.
Dietary Supplements, Vitamins and Natural Preparations
These drugs to increase potency contain various types of plant materials or components of animal origin. Some of them use recipes developed by oriental medicine.
Many dietary supplements increase stress resistance, have a rejuvenating effect, improve metabolism. At the same time, they can simultaneously be used as enhancers of sexual desire and potency.
However, it should be noted that dietary supplements, unlike medications, have not passed clinical trials, so their effectiveness is questionable. In addition, many dietary supplements aren’t cheap. Therefore, you can take them only at your own risk. Supplements include the following drugs:
- Golden seahorse
- Shpanskaya fly,
- extract of Eleutherococcus,
- ginseng extract,
- Goji berries,
- drugs with pantokrin.
It belongs to the group of dietary supplements, contains only natural ingredients. It can be used as a means of increasing potency. The presence of flavonoids, providing a tonic and restorative effect. The basis of the use of components measured from seahorses.
Ingredients: seahorse extracts, ginseng root, short-stem sow thistle, stamen orthosiphon.
Indications: men’s lack of potency, frigidity in women, chronic fatigue, treatment and prevention of urolithiasis.

When Should You Take Drugs for Impotence?
Drugs for impotence should be taken only in case of violation of potency, and only in this case. If the erection is normal, then the majority of drugs that increase potency willn’t be able to strengthen or extend it. This particularly applies to drugs of the phosphodiesterase inhibitor group (including Viagra). Uncontrolled use of drugs that increase potency, can only undermine health or lead to the opposite result – impotence.
You should also keep in mind that most drugs to increase potency have many side effects. There is actually no cure for impotence without side effects, although manufacturers, of course, don’t advertise it. Not all drugs are suitable for people after 40, 50 years. Therefore, men who have some chronic diseases – problems with the cardiovascular system, liver, diabetes, etc., should be consulted with a doctor. Only then the doctor can tell which drugs are the safest, specify the dosage, and also take into account all risk factors and possible interaction with other drugs taken by the patient.
